Great Tips for Self Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a powerful and effective tool you can use to meet your goals or change your mindset.  There are several different ways hypnosis can be helpful.  Many people use hypnosis to stop bad habits like smoking or overeating.  Hypnosis can also be used to get rid of unhealthy fears or phobias.  Hypnosis speaks to your subconscious mind, allowing deeper changes and more powerful results.  You can go to a hypnotist or a hypnotherapist to get results or you can do it yourself.  When you do it yourself, it’s called self hypnosis.  You can find many courses that will walk you step by step through the process.  Whatever course you choose, the following tips will help you get the most from your self hypnosis sessions.

Before you start your session, you need to make sure you are clear about your goals.  You need to know exactly what you want to get out of the session before you begin.  Until you are more advanced, you may want to narrow your goals down to just one or two.  You may get distracted if you try to focus on too many goals at once.  Your sessions will be more focused and rewarding if you don’t try to overload your brain.  The whole point of hypnosis is to get to a clear, focused state.  It can be hard to do this, especially at first, so it’s best to keep things simple.

You’ll need to find at least 15-20 minutes per day to perform self hypnosis.  Some people think that it’s best to practice in the morning, before you start your day.  If you find that this helps you stay focused during the day, then this may be your best time.  Otherwise, try to find a time that you can set aside without any distractions.  When you’re starting out, you may experiment with different times to see what works best for you and your schedule.  You don’t want to pick a time when you’re more susceptible to go to sleep.  While you do need to be deeply relaxed, you still have to be focused.  You can’t be focused while you’re asleep.  If it helps you stay awake, you can sit up instead of lying down.

Before you start the actual hypnosis, you need to be in a relaxed state.  To do this, you want to get in a comfortable position, either sitting up or lying down.  You’ll want to start breathing deeply and following some relaxation techniques.  There are several techniques you could use.  If you’re following a self hypnosis course, they should give you instructions for this step.  A common technique is to tense your muscles for a few seconds, and start to release the tension.  Visualize your muscles relaxing more and more with each breath.  You can find several examples of relaxation techniques online.

Once you’re relaxed, you can begin your hypnosis.  You’ll need to give yourself suggestions while you’re in this state.  It’s probably best, at least until you get more practice, to use self-hypnosis scripts.  You can either say the script to yourself or record it and listen to it.  As with relaxation techniques, any good self hypnosis course will probably give you scripts to follow.  If not, you can find some on the internet to use or learn how to create your own.  After your session is over, don’t come out of the hypnotic state too fast.  You want to gradually bring yourself out of the state.

Beginners can sometimes find self hypnosis difficult.  They can get disappointed when they don’t see results right away or they feel like they’re not doing it right.  The important thing to remember is that it takes time to get it right.  If you want results, you’re going to have to be consistent with it and practice everyday.  You may even want to do it twice a day at the beginning until you get the hang of it.  Follow the tips above, and you’ll begin to see all of the benefits self hypnosis can give to you.
